Enjoy some of the best sailing in the Southern hemisphere with Westwinds Sailing School. Westwinds Sailing School operates from Nelson Marina, next to the Tasman Bay Cruising Club, and offers RYA practical sailing courses and charters. You will sail in Tasman Bay, bordered by the Abel Tasman National Park, D'Urville Island and Nelson in the South. We also occasionally venture into the Marlborough Sounds, an area renowned for its climate with the most sunshine-hours in New Zealand. Why not combine your RYA sailing course with a few days exploring the local Marlborough vineyards, Nelson Markets or many art studios? Come by yourself, make friends or get a group together and book the whole boat.

About our sailing school

WestWinds Yachting was set up as an RYA school in 1987 to provide the highest standard of sail training with a view to sending you to sea safely. Tom Addison, the principal of WestWinds Yachting, is a former RYA examiner with 17 years experience and has been offshore sailing since 1970. He sailed his own 38-ft yacht out from England and has three seasons cruising the Pacific Islands from Panama to the Australian coast. The yacht we use for sail training is a Rival 38 - the best of British boat building! She is cutter-rigged and has all the equipment necessary for your comfort and safety on board. The prices below do not include any examination fees due to CBES should you wish to take the exam. As an indication of price, the exam fees for Yachtmast Coastal and Yachtmast Offshore are 5 and 5 currently. These are subject to change by CBES.
