Sailing Courses:
We offer a full range of RYA practical sailing courses, yacht chartering and experienced instruction to ensure you get the best from your time on the water whether you're an experienced sailor or a complete novice. You will have a great opportunity to sample some of the best sailing in the Southern hemisphere.

We offer exceptional value. Embark on your first steps with WestWinds! Our packages includes shore-based instruction to RYA Yachtmaster standard.

Aside from the RYA syllabus based courses we also offer Group / Family exclusive use courses and charters. And for those looking to boost their sea miles our Mile Builders may be of interest. They are ideal to gain experience with ocean passages and build up mileage for pre-course experience requirements. There is no requirement for previus miles or experience.

We operate from Nelson giving access to the Able Tasman and the Marlborough Sounds, 2 wonderful cruising areas.

Course Prices:
Our prices at $280 a day all inclusive are the most competetive in NZ. Exam fees (optional) for the Coastal Skipper and Yacht Master courses are additional to the prices listed below and are payable to the Coastguard Boating Education Service (CBES). They vary between $425 and $485.

Company Overview:
WestWinds Yachting was set up as an RYA school in 1987 to provide the highest standard of sail training with a view to sending you to sea safely.

Tom Addison, the principal of WestWinds Yachting, is an RYA examiner of 17 years experience and has been offshore sailing since 1970. He sailed his own 38-ft yacht out from England and has significant experience cruising the Pacific Islands from Panama to the Australian coast.

The yacht we use for sail training is a Rival 38 - the best of British boat building! She is cutter-rigged and has all the equipment necessary for your comfort and safety on board.

Additional Comments:

• Oilskins/Waterproofs are available for hire from $20 per person per course.
• Appart from any exam fees(if requied and payable to the RYA)there are no additional costs with Westwinds. Our prices include Bedding ,Food,Fuel, Waterproofs .Ceritfication a log book if you require one.
