Sailing Courses:
Sail Due South is a South African sail training school with its main base in Langebaan on the West Coast, and a satellite school at the Vaal Dam.

We offer RYA and SAS approved and recognized sailing courses which start from a two days ‘Start Yachting Course’ and go up to the ‘Yachtmaster Ocean’ qualification. We work hand in hand with other maritime institutes to offer the more advanced sailors further studies for Officer of the Watch and higher credentials. Our sailing courses at Sail Due South in South Africa are all available on either a monohull or a catamaran (the only exceptions are RYA Competent Crew and any preparation weeks which are available exclusively on a monohull). We are the only Catamaran Sail Training School in South Africa and use a Wildcat 35.

All our RYA courses are conducted in the only RYA approved waters in South Africa along the beautiful Western Cape coastline with its many secluded anchorages and small marinas. Offshore sailing brings you face to face with nature and the elements. It combines mental and physical challenges, requires teamwork and trust in fellow sailors, grants adventure and excitement – but most of all, it offers fun while improving and perfecting your skills.

On the Vaal Dam near Johannesburg we offer exclusively SAS Inland Water courses. The Vaal Dam which hosts the annual “Round the Island” sailing regatta, the biggest yacht race in South African waters provides safe but challenging conditions. It is perfect escape from the rat race and the stress of everyday life in the nearby big cities, and learning the ropes there will most certainly spur you on to bigger things and bigger waters.

We offer RYA and SAS approved and recognized courses which we run in the only RYA approved waters in South Africa. Whatever your plans, your future enjoyment and above all your safety depend on building a sound body of knowledge and skills at each level.

We are here to help you learn to sail well – and have fun in the process.

At Sail Due South we believe in excellence of sail training that can open doors to the international yachting scene and give those with a passion for sailing and love for the sea an opportunity to make their dreams come true.

Company Overview:
Sail Due South was established in 2004 at the Cape and changed management in early 2008. All the instructors at Sail Due South have gone through a certified training program and have many sea miles on their backs. Additional Comments:

  • The prices for our sailing courses are inclusive accommodation on board for theory & practical parts, lifejackets, berthing fees, fuel, course materials and manuals, personal logbook and the use of one of our boats for the exam (where applicable)
  • Excluded from our course prices are examination fees which have to be paid separately and directly either to the RYA or SAS, depending on the course.
  • Food needs to be provided by the students. We do guide our students on how to victual as a group for the boat since budgeting for the crew is part of sailing as well.
