Overview:

Our RYA Powerboat training and Motor Cruising courses cover both the practical and shore-based RYA syllabus.

In addition to RYA Powerboat training and Motor Cruising courses, we run own boat-training which allows you to use your own vessel either for specific RYA courses or just to brush up on your boat handling. You can also opt for having an RYA Instructor take you on an extended passage to aid in confidence-building and get to grips with practical navigation, both traditional and using modern electronic aids.

An area where we also look to offer ongoing help is with “family boating”. Having an effective and involved crew can increase your enjoyment of boating. After all, if you have a bored uninvolved crew it can affect your overall boating experience, and a day with an instructor can help with getting the best from your “team” which in the long term can pay dividends.

Our aim is to provide a friendly, relaxed learning environment that is also fun. Our instructors are chosen for their personality as well as their skill and experience and are all full time.

We never forget that you have a choice - give us a call and discuss your options, particularly if you are not sure of the best course for you. We will be happy to help, even if it means we can’t meet your immediate needs - we will point you in the direction that is right for you, not for us!

The RYA Powerboat Scheme

The RYA Powerboat scheme is designed to meet the needs of both recreational and professional powerboat operators. The National Powerboat Scheme is applicable to sportsboat, RIBS (Rigid Inflatable Boats), dories and launches, and other boats which do not normally provide accomodation or cooking facilities. The lower age limit for RYA powerboat courses is 8 years, but for all under 16 the certificates will be endorsed to say that they should be under adult supervision.

We are able to run two-day courses at any time of year 7 days a week and are happy to fit in with your specific needs. Courses can also be run on your own boat. PLease contact us to discuss.

5 Star Marine are based at Ocean Quay Marina on the River Itchen in Southampton, Hampshire, with easy access to the whole of the Solent, which is probably the best training area in the UK, if not the world.

We specialise in RYA Powerboat training and Motor Cruising courses only, however we are able to offer RYA Sailing Courses through our partner, Commodore Yachting. based in Portsmouth Harbour.
