Attending a structured course is all good and well - invaluable in fact. Experience also counts for a lot though and indeed you will find many excellent sailors who have learnt much of what they know through time on the water. There’s nothing like capsizing a dinghy a few times to help you appreciate what will and will not work! Believe it or not, it’s fun too….!

With that in mind you will find via the pages detailed below links to sailing clubs around England , Scotland , Wales and Ireland as we find them. Clubs include those offering windsurfing, dinghy and yacht sailing. To participate at a club you don’t need to own a boat yourself, and often you’ll find windsurfing kit can be hired for a small charge whilst you decide if you want to invest in some yourself. The club notice board is the place to look for people interested in finding crew and of course for you to place a message saying that you’re looking to crew. This is the best way of getting out on the water and building experience – often you’ll find people who would love to get hold of someone who will crew for them regularly.
