Learn to Sail - but where to start?
In many walks of life you will find competing associations and sailing / boating is no different. Associations such as the RYA (Royal Yachting Association), IYT (International Yachtmaster) or ASA (American Sailing Association) for example all produce a range of course syllabus which schools can 'sign-up' to and then offer their customers once they have satisfied the association's quality criteria. Following the syllabus offered by these associations offers you a route to improving your boating ability through taking successive courses.
Of course, you may not be fussed about following syllabus' - you’d rather just get out and sail. Or perhaps you simply want to go on a holiday which will teach you to sail.
Organisations found through our Learn to Sail section do not offer you a particular syllabus to follow – rather they offer a ‘course’, holiday or experience which will let you get on the water and learn at a pace to suit you. There are no expectations, no levels to attain, you just sail.
We currently offer three options for this type of holiday:
- Learn to Sail in Croatia
- Activity Yachting Holidays are an IYT approved centre, however, their focus is on getting you sailing as part of a flotilla sailing holiday amongst the Croatian islands
- Sailing School Croatia are an RYA accredited sailing school which offers a variety of sailing holidays where the the aim is to learn to sail, or gain more experience in a non pressurised environment.
- Learn to Sail holidays in The Ionian Sea, Greece
- Assisted Boat Charters are an IYT approved training school who let you undertake your training whilst being part of a flotilla. You're on the lead boat with the instructor(s), but get to enjoy all the social elements that a flotilla can bring
- Sea Trek Adventures are an IYT sea school offering a range of courses from Crew level to International Certificate of Competence. Their real focus though is on getting non-sailors sailing on holiday. So, if you fancy going on a sailing holiday where you will learn how to sail and then be let loose all in the same week, then it could be for you.
- Sail & Stay in Brittany, France (takes you to their profile on www.marsbrookholidayideas.com)
- Brittany Sailing are an RYA accredited sailing school, however, they also own two gites on the north French coast. As such they offer an innovative holiday of 1 week sailing with a professional skipper and 1 week ashore in their gite.
