If you've never chartered before
you might be wondering where the time goes and how
you'll entertain the kids or whether you'll get board.
Relax - there is always plenty to do - finding out
where you're going today, setting off, sunbathing,
stopping for lunch for a swim and maybe snorkel, a
short siesta followed by some more sailing, maybe
some fishing, then getting to your destination where
you can sit and watch the world go by or get off and
explore your new surroundings, maybe eyeing up where
you'll eat this evening
Or you can take a less relaxing
route to your destination, get there by lunchtime
and maybe do some sightseeing.
What To Take
In our experience, it's easier to take too much!!
What you take very much depends on where (and when)
you charter and you should find out the likely temperature
for the area. Dealing with both extremes:
|
Hot Climates
(UK summer ocassionally... or Med season)
- Sunglasses (cheap pair
just in case)
- Suntan lotion
- Hat with brim for shade
- Bikini
- Lots of shorts and T shirts
Gloves
- Long sleeved light shirt
in case of sunburn / cool evenings
- Lightweight long trousers
(sunburn prevention)
- T shirt for swimming in
(sunburn Protection)
- N.B. For the UK we'd also
pack warm jumpers - the wind can often be
fresh!
|
Colder Climates
(UK Winter)
- Hat (warm and woolly)
- Multiple jumpers
- Breathable under garments
- Warm footwear
- Gloves
|
Whatever the climate these are useful
items to have:
- Torch with spare batteries
- Binoculars
- Camera (preferably waterproof)
- Onboard (white-soled) and offboard
shoes / sandals
- Reading books
Items should be packed in a soft
bag - definitely not a hard valise-type suitcase.
Two smaller bags will probably be easier to stow away
than one large one and allows you to be more organised,
maybe splitting daytime versus evening clothes.
