Sailing Courses:
So you’ve decided to go sailing and start climbing the ladder possibly even to reach the coveted RYA Yachtmaster qualification. Hobo Yachting is an RYA recognised sailing school in Southampton, Hampshire which can offer you a range of sail training courses starting with Start Yachting right up to Yachtmaster Offshore (Preparation and Exam). Courses are run in the sheltered waters of the solent and further afield in the Channel Islands.

Additionally for those who wish to attain their Yachtmaster qualification in a concentrated timescale we offer our highly acclaimed, competitively priced Yachtmaster Fast Track.

All courses are taken on board our superbly maintained, 12 metre Moody 422, 'Happy Hobo'. Sailors of every ability are welcome aboard this extremely comfortable yacht with far more space than the average sailing school boat. Also, for those early and late season sailors, we have full central heating! Her wide side decks and self tailing winches make her the ideal vessel for novices, and her multiple navigational aids mean that those with more experience can build upon their skills.

The ideal cabin layout ensures privacy for those who value it, and because on all our RYA courses there is never more than 5 students on an 8 berth boat there is plenty of room for stowage of personal kit which avoids having to “live out of your bag”.

If you think that sailing means a diet of tinned food, then think again! We pride ourselves on the variety of home cooked and fresh food that we provide, and are also happy to cater for those with special dietary needs, e.g. vegetarian, provided we are informed in writing and receive adequate notice.

We also run adventure cruises if you would like to build your sea miles.

Company Overview:
Hobo Yachting is a family firm and Jenny and Ken Campling will spare no effort to ensure that you achieve all you want from your Sailing Vacation – be it Solent based Day Sailing, an RYA sailing course from the south coast, a cross channel passage milebuilding trip or one of our sailing holiday adventure cruises.

The school principal, Ken Campling, is a Yachtmaster Ocean Instructor, a professional navigator and radar specialist. He is a mature and experienced instructor, who has been involved in sailing for all of his adult life and still retains a sense of humour!

Location & How to Find Us:
Hobo Yachting is based at Southampton’s Ocean Village Marina close to the railway station and motorway. The cruising area is either the sheltered waters of the Solent or the busy waters of the English Channel whilst for those wishing to experience a cross channel passage or simply build up sea miles we head off to the North French Coast. We also cruise extensively along the Atlantic coast of France and the channel islands.
