Sailing Courses:
Sunsail is one of the world's most experienced sailing schools with more than 25 years' experience in teaching people how to sail and improving their yachting skills.

Learning to sail opens up the doors to many amazing new life experiences. Not only will you gain a new skill, but you can go on to enjoy an unlimited range of holiday and social sailing experiences all over the world.

Our school is located on Hamilton Island in the Whitsunday Islands just 25 miles from the Great Barrier Reef. Comprising more than 74 primarily uninhabited islands and islets, these tranquil, turquoise waters are considered some of the finest cruising grounds in Australia and rival the best in the world.

The islands offer a unique sailing experience - smooth seas, fair winds and an abundance of proteced anchorages surrounded by lush tropical rainforests and stunning secluded beaches.

For those who already have sailing experience, our courses progress up to RYA Coastal Skipper standard, to help you further develop your ability and confidence, as well as providing important certifications.

If you are not necessarily interested in gaining formal qualifications, but would like to learn for fun, to improve skills or to be able to charter your own yacht at any of Sunsail's 35 international destinations, check out one of our Leisure Courses.

Sunsail's Leisure Courses are designed to enable you to learn more about sailing in a relaxing and enjoyable environment.

Our Leisure Courses aim to put you at ease onboard a yacht and open up opportunities for you to better enjoy a Sunsail sailing holiday or other boating and recreational activities.

The Leisure courses are generally designed for beginners, with the goal of improving your confidence and competence onboard a yacht, as well as giving you a taste for sailing so you may choose to go on and further develop your skills if you wish.

The Whitsundays is located in central Queensland , approximately 1160km north of Brisbane and 737km south of Cairns. The tranquil and turqoise waters surrounding the Whitsunday's and The Great Barrier Reef are rated as one of the world's best sailing locations.

The Whitsundays are located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and comprise 74 tropical islands and inlets, the majority of which are unspoilt national parks. The Whitsunday Islands are renowned for their lush rainforests, deserted beaches and spectacular reefs.

Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island has been voted one of the top three beaches in the world with its unspoilt white silica sand spanning an incredible 6 kilometre stretch up the coastline. The Whitsundays are also famous for superb coral formations and marine life.

Whales, dolphins, turtles and mantarays are a common sight in the sheltered waters of the Whitsundays making it a mecca for snorkellers and diving enthusiasts and the perfect location for a yacht charter holiday.

Sunsail's Whitsunday base is located on Hamilton Island - the Whitsundays' largest island destination.

• How to get to us: Access to the Whitsundays is easy witha number of airlines operating daily flights direct to Hamilton Island's jet airport from most major Australian cities. The island is a 1.5 hour direct flight from Brisbane, 2.5 from Sydney and 3.5 hours from Melbourne.
• If you'd like to increase your sea miles take a look at our Luxury Crewed By the Cabin Cruises in both Asia and Australia. You choose how much you want to be involved in the sailing.

• All RYA courses include all meals and accomodation onboard yacht. As part of your course all meals are stowed, prepared and cooked by students.
